Are you missing a front tooth? A dental implant is an esthetic solution to permanently replace teeth!
In this photo, the patient was missing his front tooth. He formerly had a partial (or flipper) that served as a removable replacement for the missing tooth. The patient was very pleased about the esthetic final result and excited to have a permanent tooth replacement that he doesn't need to worry about taking in and out.
Why Patients Choose a Dental Implant for a Missing Front Tooth
When a front tooth is missing, appearance matters, but function matters too. A dental implant is designed to replace the missing tooth at the root level and support a custom crown that blends in with the surrounding teeth. This makes it a popular option for patients who want a permanent tooth replacement that is both secure and esthetic.
Compared to a removable flipper or partial, a dental implant offers several advantages:
- It stays in place
- It looks and feels more like a natural tooth
- It does not need to be removed for cleaning
- It helps support the bone in the area of the missing tooth
- It does not rely on neighboring teeth for support the way some other restorations do
What Is the Process for Permanent Tooth Replacement With a Dental Implant?
If you are considering a dental implant, the first step is a consultation. At that visit, we complete a thorough exam of the area and take a 3D x-ray to evaluate the available bone and determine whether the site is ready for implant placement.
Once the evaluation is complete, we create a treatment plan based on your specific needs. After reviewing the plan with you, we schedule the implant placement procedure. During that appointment, the dental implant is placed in the area of the missing tooth.
After the implant is placed, the site needs time to heal. In many cases, healing takes about 3 to 6 months. Once the implant has integrated with the bone, a custom crown is attached to complete the permanent tooth replacement.
Is a Dental Implant the Right Permanent Tooth Replacement for You?
A dental implant can be an excellent option for many patients who are missing a front tooth, but the right treatment depends on several factors, including the condition of the bone, the health of the surrounding gums, and your overall oral health.
If you are currently wearing a flipper or partial and want a more secure long-term solution, it may be time to find out whether a dental implant is the right permanent tooth replacement for your smile.
Considering a dental implant?
If you are thinking about having an evaluation for a dental implant, call our office to set up a consultation. At that visit, we will complete a thorough examination of the implant site and take a 3-D x-ray to evaluate the bone in the area. Once the consultation is completed, we will create an implant treatment plan. After the treatment plan is reviewed, we will re-appoint you for your implant surgery, where the dental implant will be placed in the site of the missing tooth. Following implant placement, after 3-6 months of healing, a crown can be attached to the implant to permanently and esthetically replace your missing tooth.
