Dr. Blake Nelson, DDS
Dr. Nelson knows how stressful dental care can be, and prioritizes a comfortable, painless experience
He’s had a lot of dental work, too. Like many people, Dr. Nelson has a lot of unpleasant memories of dental work as a child. From the age of 4 to 18, he had just about every dental treatment procedure from fillings to crowns to extractions.
Because of his personal experiences, he’s committed to prioritizing patient comfort. Dr. Nelson is extremely motivated to provide dental care with a high-level of compassion to patients with dental anxiety like himself. Dr. Nelson loves promoting oral health, relieving patients' dental pain, and restoring healthy, beautiful smiles.
One of the few to offer sedation dentistry. As one of the only general dentists in the Winston-Salem and Piedmont Triad area with a moderate sedation license, Dr. Nelson is able to guarantee stress-free care to even the most nervous patients.

Dr. Nelson graduated with Honors from Virginia Commonwealth University, where he studied Biomedical Engineering. He went on to attain his dental degree at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill School of Dentistry.

During his time at The University of North Carolina, Dr. Nelson received multiple awards and was honored to graduate in the top 10% of his class with distinction and was inducted into Omicron Kappa Upsilon, the national dental honors society for outstanding graduating dentists. Dr. Nelson also received the Dental Implant Award upon graduation for his extensive interest and knowledge of dental implants.
Dr. Nelson has extensive training in all fields of dentistry, including sedation dentistry
Following dental school, Dr. Nelson completed an Advanced General Dentistry residency in San Antonio, Texas. During his year of residency, he completed extensive additional training to become certified to administer sedation dentistry.
Dr. Nelson is one of the only general dentists in the Winston-Salem and Piedmont Triad area who can administer sedation dentistry. Dr. Nelson also received additional training on dental implants, cosmetic dentistry, crowns, bridges, dentures, and temporomandibular joint disorder or TMJ pain through his residency program and continuing education programs:

Dr. Nelson was born and raised just down the road in Hickory, North Carolina
Dr. Nelson was born and raised in Hickory, NC. He graduated second in his class from Hickory High School where he enjoyed playing soccer and basketball. As an Eagle Scout, he spent many memorable weekends hiking and camping in the beautiful western North Carolina mountains.

Dr. Nelson and his wife, Dr. Kelly Lipp, who is a pediatric dentist in Winston-Salem, are thrilled to be members of the Piedmont Triad community. They live in Winston-Salem in Sherwood Forest with their spoiled dog, a Goldendoodle named Teddy. He and
his wife were thrilled to welcome their baby girl home on March 22, 2021.
A dentist with a commitment to serve
Dr. Nelson is passionate about serving others and has gone on many mission trips to provide dentistry to underserved communities in countries such as Nicaragua, Guatemala, and the Dominican Republic. Dr. Nelson also volunteers in the Winston-Salem and Piedmont Triad communities at the Mission of Mercy Clinics and at Veterans Health Clinics.

Dr. Don Benton, DDS - Retired
A dentist with no shortage of experience and who is known for his gentle touch
Dr. Benton started our practice over 40 years ago. He has a passion for cosmetic and general dentistry, and he has been proudly serving the Winston-Salem and Piedmont Triad community since he graduated from dental school.
He’s focused on patient comfort. Dr. Benton has a calm and gentle demeanor, which is also reflected in his dental work. Many of his patients remark that he has the gentlest touch of any dentist they've ever been to!
A dentist who is from Winston-Salem, and who trained at Carolina
Dr. Benton was born and raised in Winston-Salem. Dr. Benton graduated from R.J. Reynolds High School in 1969. Following high school, he attended college at UNC Chapel Hill. He fell in love with Chapel Hill during his 4 years as an undergraduate, so he stayed 4 more years for dental school. Upon graduation, Dr. Benton returned to his hometown and established a private practice where he would go on to serve patients for 43 years and counting.
Dr. Benton knows his patients. He has meaningful relationships with his patients and is compassionate in addressing their dental needs.
He’s committed to continuing education. Dr. Benton has taken countless hours of continuing education over the years to further his skills to better serve his patients.

In his spare time, Dr. Benton enjoys golfing and is a member of the Forsyth Country Club. He also enjoys renovation projects at his Buena Vista home and collecting artwork. Dr. Benton is the proud father of two and is thrilled to be a grandfather.
Lacey
Front Office Manager
Lacey is our front office manager and has been with Benton and Nelson Family Dentistry since 2013. She loves helping people to have a healthy, functioning smile so they can have a good quality of life. When not at the office, Lacey enjoys spending time with her husband and little girl. She is from Yadkinville and her hobbies include coaching and playing softball, camping, golfing, and reading.

Dental Hygienist
Ashley is one of our dental hygienists and has been practicing since 2010. She loves connecting with her patients while helping them have a healthy and beautiful smile. Ashley is happily married and has a young daughter and dog. She is from Lexington and enjoys reading, watching movies, and spending time with her family.
Sherrie
Dental Hygienist
Sherrie is from Mocksville and has been a practicing dental hygienist for over 25 years. She has been at our practice for 19 years and loves getting to know our patients. Sherrie has two children and coaches cheer and tumbling.
Megan
Dental Assistant
Megan has been a dental assistant with our practice since 2021. She loves helping patients achieve great oral health. She loves spending time with her husband and two labs, Jake and Chief. When away from work she enjoys spending time outside and going to Emerald Isle NC.
Molly
Dental Assistant
Molly has been been a dental assistant since 2021. She enjoys spending time with her boyfriend and her golden doodle, Dallas. She loves being outdoors, reading and making people smile.
Vicki
Dental Hygienist
Vicki is a native of Eastern North Carolina but has called Winston Salem home since 1998. She has been a registered dental hygienist since 2010. She enjoys getting to know her patients and helping them have their healthiest smile. Vicki likes reading, practicing hot yoga and spending time the her family.
