Why would I need a tooth-colored filling? 

Dental decay: A tooth can decay due to many reasons. Dental decay is caused by bacteria that soften and weakens the tooth structure and can even create holes in teeth. Dental decay can be painlessly removed, and the missing tooth structure can be replaced with a tooth-colored filling. 

Chipped or missing tooth structure: If your teeth have been chipped, a tooth-colored filling can be placed to replace missing tooth structure. 

An old filling that has gone bad: With time, your existing fillings can chip, crack, or even have cavities form beneath them. Your dentist will examine your existing fillings and can replace them with new ones if indicated.

Preparing the Tooth for a Filling

Once the decay is removed, Dr. Nelson prepares the tooth with a special kind of glue that seals the filling material to the tooth. This creates a seamless transition from tooth to filling material which prevents leakage and staining. 

Placing the Tooth-Colored Filling Material

The composite material can be shaped and adapted to fill in the exact contour of the natural tooth. These high-quality materials come in many different shades to match the exact color of your tooth. This allows you to smile and chew with confidence.

A completed tooth-colored restoration will have the same look, feel and function as the original natural tooth. It is the most conservative and natural method to keep your teeth healthy for the rest of your life.

What if I am nervous about getting a filling? 

We have the most effective, pain-free, and up-to-date numbing techniques. During any treatment, Dr. Nelson prides himself on using state-of-the-art techniques to deliver painless numbing. We utilize the latest and most effective techniques for anesthesia. 

Calming nitrous oxide (laughing gas) is available. For patients with anxiety, nitrous oxide, or “laughing gas,” will help eliminate nervousness and promote a more calm, tranquil state of mind. 

We offer stress-free sedation dentistry. Dr. Nelson is one of the only general dentists in the Winston-Salem and Piedmont Triad area who is trained and licensed in all forms of sedation dentistry. Patients are always given the option to choose dental sedation during their procedures to guarantee a stress-free experience. In fact, most patients say that going to the dentist was never easier and that they have no memory of the procedure at all!

The fee for a dental filling depends on how many surfaces of the tooth the filling will replace.  A dental filling that only replaces on surface costs $171 where a filling that replaces four or more tooth surfaces costs $343.

Our office accepts and files all dental insurance policies. Our office provides excellent care at an affordable price. We accept and file all dental insurance policies and will fight on your behalf so that you receive the maximum benefit.

Financial plans are available. We offer financing plans that allow you to fit your needs into your budget.

Discounts for patients without dental insurance (cash pay). We also offer discounts to patients without dental insurance or for those who prefer to pay in cash.
