Sedation dentistry in Winston-Salem may mean:
- Local anesthesia
- Nitrous oxide
- Oral sedation
- IV Sedation
Your dentist will assess your health to ensure sedation dentistry is safe for you. We’ll also put together a plan that works for your level of anxiety and desired level of sedation. In some cases, your dentist may opt for more than one option.
We also monitor you closely while you’re under sedation.

Sedation Dentistry Options
Local Anesthesia
This is not sedation per se but a powerful numbing agent gently injected into the site where you’ll have treatment. For example, we use local anesthesia before root canal treatment or other minimally invasive procedures.
Nitrous Oxide
Nitrous oxide is a relaxant delivered to you through a nasal mask. It produces tranquility and detachment, allowing you to get the necessary dental care. The effects of this gas do not linger after we stop delivery. You can resume your regular activities, including driving.
Oral Sedation
Oral sedation is a pill given before your dental procedure. Ideally, it will relax you enough so you’ll not mind having dental treatment. This method of sedation requires a ride home from our dental office.
IV Sedation
We are one of the few dental practices in the area offering IV sedation. With this method, you’re unlikely to recall your dental treatment. As with oral sedation, you’ll not be driving yourself home from treatment and should rest for the remainder of the day.
