What Is The Most Common Dental Emergency?

The most common dental emergency is an infected root.

Patients will frequently experience an infection inside the root of the tooth. This infection is typically caused by an issue like a cavity or a crack that allows bacteria to bypass the enamel, moving deep into the tooth.

Once this infection has started, it will typically cause significant pain. The pain that infection causes depend on the infection's severity and the patient's reaction to the pain.

For many patients, pain is severe, disrupting their normal sleep or work routines. The pain will come and go, but it will not stop until you seek treatment.

Minus post-operational pain, a root canal stops the pain almost immediately once the procedure is complete. It will also protect the tooth from further damage.

Less Common Dental Emergencies

If you are experiencing a different kind of dental emergency, we can still help.

Other dental emergencies include:

  • Cracked teeth
  • Knocked-out teeth
  • Severe or uncontrollable bleeding in the gums
  • Severe infection
  • Lost filling or crown
  • Broken dentures
