What is the denture process like?

A customized denture in three simple visits: 

Your customized denture can be made in three easy appointments after an initial consultation with Dr. Nelson.

• 1st Appointment: Initial impressions. An impression or mold of the mouth is taken at our office. 

• 2nd Appointment: Preview of your customized dentures. You will get a chance to see the premium teeth that will be in your denture. We will work with you to help you choose the perfect tooth shade, tooth size, and tooth alignment

• 3rd Appointment: Take home your customized dentures! We will provide you with careful instructions and tools to take care of your new dentures.

Dr. Nelson always makes sure the dentures made in their office have an ideal fit.  For patients who have noticed their denture loosening over time, or who want to ensure their denture never becomes displaced, implant-retained dentures and denture relines are excellent options.

Types of Dentures 

• Complete Dentures — Complete dentures are for total tooth loss in an arch, available as "conventional" (made after teeth removal and healing) or "immediate" (made in advance, used immediately after teeth removal).

• Partial Dentures — For partial tooth loss, these dentures are available as fixed (dental bridges, cemented to surrounding teeth or implants) or removable (attached with clasps or attachments).

• Implant-Retained Dentures — These are overdentures attached to implants, offering stability for those without teeth but with sufficient bone support. These dental implants help anchor the denture so it will not move when eating or speaking. 

Denture Relines

Denture relines are more affordable than making an entirely new set of dentures. Sometimes dentures need a procedure called a reline done. This is commonly needed if extractions were completed within 9-12 months of getting your denture, as your bone and gum tissue will remodel and change shape slightly. This remodeling can cause your new dentures to become loose over time.

However, a simple procedure can be performed by our office which customizes the inside of your denture. This is much cheaper and quicker than designing a new set of dentures. The good news is that aesthetic aspects of the dentures are unchanged during this process. 

Most effective, pain-free, and up-to-date numbing techniques: During any treatment, Dr. Nelson prides himself on using state-of-the-art techniques to deliver painless numbing. We utilize the latest and most effective techniques for anesthesia. 

Calming nitrous oxide (laughing gas): For patients with anxiety, nitrous oxide or “laughing gas” will help eliminate nervousness and promote a more calm, tranquil state of mind. 

Stress-free sedation dentistry: Dr. Nelson is one of the only general dentists in the Winston-Salem and Piedmont Triad area who is trained and licensed in all forms of sedation dentistry.  Patients are always given the option to choose dental sedation during their procedures to guarantee a stress-free experience. In fact, most patients say that going to the dentist was never easier and that they have no memory of the procedure at all!

Can I afford a denture or implant-retained denture?

Our office accepts and files all dental insurance policies. Our office provides excellent care at an affordable price. We accept and file all dental insurance policies and will fight on your behalf so that you receive the maximum benefit.

Financial plans are available. We offer financing plans that allow you to fit your needs into your budget.

Discounts for patients without dental insurance (cash pay). We also offer discounts to patients without dental insurance or for those who prefer to pay in cash.
