On-the-Go Tips for a Healthier Smile This Season

As you have read, this is the summer for music, food, and fun in Winston-Salem. It’s okay to indulge and have a fantastic time with family and friends, but don’t forget to take care of your smile while doing so.

Here are a few on-the-go tips to consider while navigating the fun and festivities:

  • Drink Plenty of Water: Water is far more hydrating than soda and juice. In fact, sugary beverages can be dehydrating. Water is neither sugary nor acidic, both of which lead to cavities. It also helps clear debris from your teeth and gums.
  • Travel-Sized Products: In your purse, fanny pack, or car, consider carrying travel-sized oral hygiene products for a quick brush-and-rinse between treats and events.
  • Schedule Your Next Dental Checkup and Teeth Cleaning in Winston-Salem: At the kick-off of summer (or even mid-season), it’s always a good idea to schedule your next checkup and teeth cleaning to be sure you don't have emerging oral health issues or decay.

Up Your Oral Care Routine as Needed

If you spend a lot of time traveling or visiting food festivals this summer, it might be wise to up your oral hygiene routine.

We recommend brushing and flossing at least twice daily, but adding another brushing and flossing session can be a bonus this season.

Remember to brush every tooth on all sides, spending at least two minutes on your smile. Additionally, use fresh sections of string as you floss across your smile. It’s vital to always brush your teeth before going to bed.

Remember to Visit Your Winston-Salem Dentist

If you have oral health concerns or you’re due for a checkup and teeth cleaning, we encourage you to schedule an appointment as soon as possible.

Unchecked or undiagnosed oral health issues can lead to sudden situations that can really put a damper on your summer fun, including toothaches and dental emergencies.

Oral Health Changes? When to Contact Us

If you have an oral injury, such as a broken or avulsed tooth, or if you notice oral health changes that don’t improve, we want to hear from you.

Oral health changes may include, but are not limited to:

  • Tooth Sensitivity
  • Recurring Bad Breath
  • Bleeding Gums
  • Oral Sores That Don’t Heal

There are steps you can take this summer to protect your smile from emergencies, such as brushing and flossing regularly, attending regular dental checkups, wearing a mouthguard if you play sports, and staying hydrated.
